Janet Davies
Janet Davies studied violin in Sydney with Eva Kelly, Robert Pikler, Dorel Tincu and Alice Waten. As a professional
violinist, she played with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. In 1986 she
completed a three year teacher-training course in the Alexander Technique, and
later traveled to New York, London and Amsterdam to observe violin teachers
(Dorothy Delay, Felix Andrievsky, Coosje Wijzenbeek) and undertake post-graduate
Alexander work. Currently she teaches violin and pedagogy at Sydney
Conservatorium and also works privately with a wide range of student and
professional musicians. A large number of her ex-students work as professional
musicians and teachers in Australia and internationally.
Over the last two
decades Janet has developed her own violin teaching method based on the
philosophy of the Alexander Technique. Through this unique and innovative
teaching method and her wealth of experience as a violin teacher, she is able to
make the Alexander Technique accessible to violinists for immediate improvements
in playing.
